PORT CHARLOTTE — Charlotte County Sheriff’s Narcotics detectives did a reverse narcotics sting in Port Charlotte when a Punta Gorda man asked to purchase oxycodone pills from an undercover detective. Arrested and charged with attempted purchase of a controlled substance/oxycodone was Daniel Alan Jones, 59, of the 29400 block of Bermont Road. Jones made contact with an undercover detective and asked to buy oxycodone. He then told the detective to meet him in a parking lot on Kings Highway near U.S. 41. When detectives arrived, Jones was standing outside of his vehicle. He then gave the undercover detective the agreed amount of cash and the detective handed him fake/placebo oxycodone pills. Once the exchange was completed, other members of the Narcotics Unit moved in and arrested Jones.

Jones was transported to the Charlotte County Jail, where he remains on a $5,000 bond. Anyone with knowledge of illegal drug activity is asked to please call the CCSO Narcotics Unit at 941-575-2157, or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
