The expression “living the life of Riley” means a good, pleasant and easy life. It is thought to have come from World War I as many soldiers had it better in the Army than they did at home so they were “living the life of Riley.” Nobody knows who “Riley” was but whoever it was had a nice life. There even was a 1950s TV show called “Life of Riley” starring William Bendix.

DeSoto County High School senior Tishonna Riley is experiencing what some people would call “living the life of Riley.” The popular student-athlete has been named to the Charlotte Sun All Area team in volleyball every year except as a freshman. Riley hasn’t missed a beat in basketball, making the Sun’s All Area team every year of her high school career.
