VENICE — Though there were plenty of fouls to go around for both teams Friday, when the Charlotte High School girls basketball team needed a foul most, there was no whistle to be had.

Instead of the high-pitched tweet leaving an official’s whistle, the only sounds that filled the gym were cheers for Venice and a sigh of relief from the Indians after they held off the visiting Tarpons 50-47.
