Young racer follows family’s tracks

At age 11, Blake Wellins already is a veteran racer.

The Punta Gorda sixth-grader has been competing in BMX racing since he was 3. It didn’t take long for him to follow the path of the rest of his family. His two older brothers, now in their 20s, raced into their teens, said his mother, Jada Webb, herself a racer at 42. And Blake’s father, Robert Wellins has been a longtime racer.
