Donald L. Joel, 87, of Lake Suzy, Fla., passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.

He was born Jan. 9, 1925, in Euclid, Ohio to Clarence and Della (nee Crawford) Joel.

Donald moved to this area 18 years ago, from Akron, Ohio. He worked as a layout designer for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 45 years, and was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army where he was one of the first to storm Normandy Beach.

Donald is survived by his son, Donald J. (Carolyn) Joel of Port Charlotte; and grandchildren, Christian and Destiny Joel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, in October.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte. Entombment will follow. Please visit Donald’s tribute wall at www.schelmfh.com to share memories, and to send condolences to the Joel family.
