Mary Kathryn Maassen

Mary Kathryn Maassen, 90, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012.

She was born in Wauchula, Fla., Dec. 06, 1921, to Charles Benjamin Franklin Lambert and Lula Verdie Mathis Lambert.

Mary moved to Arcadia in 1938, and married John S. Maassen Jr. in 1939. She and John owned and operated the family business, Maassen Oil Company. Kathryn was a loving mother of three sons and a devoted wife. She was an Elder in First Presbyterian Church of Arcadia, member of the Women’s Club, Arcadia’s Garden Club, and the Ladies Auxillary of the Legion. Apart from spending time with her family, Mary enjoyed cooking, sewing, flowers, gardening, and painting china plates.

She is survived by her sons, Johnny (Sue) Maassen, Edward (Jill) Maassen, and David (Debi) Maassen of Arcadia; sister, Hazel L. Mooney of Alabama; sister-in-law, Vera Hilliard Lambert; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Maassen Jr.; brothers, Corris Lambert, Harold Lambert, Charles Lambert, Kenneth Lambert; and parents.

A visitation will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church of Arcadia, and funeral service at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Myles MacDonald officiating, followed by burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathryn’s honor can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Arcadia, 209 W.
