SUN PHOTO BY GARY ROBERTS A private aircraft ran off the edge of the runway and flipped over shortly after noon Saturday at the Punta Gorda Airport. There were no injuries or hazards, according to Dee Hawkins-Garland, Charlotte County Fire/EMS spokeswoman. Firetrucks were called, but the rescue vehicle was canceled when the pilot refused treatment, she said. The Federal Aviation Administration took control of the scene, planning to remove the airplane to a hangar and continue its investigation into the cause of the accident.
