Superintendent draws line

You wouldn’t expect the Charlotte County School Board to refuse to follow a law, but that’s exactly what superintendent Doug Whittaker promised to do if the Florida Legislature passes House Bill 67 in the 2014 legislative session.

If passed, the bill, proposed by state Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Shalimar, would require Florida high school students to start no earlier than 8 a.m. Currently, high school students in Charlotte County start at 7:05 a.m.
