SARASOTA COUNTY — The family of James Brotherton filed out of the courtroom slowly late Friday night, two years of waiting and wondering if there would be justice finally over.

His nine brothers and sisters, who traveled to the Sarasota County Justice Center from around the country, gathered around patriarch Hugh Brotherton, rejoicing that James’ killer, Charles Hill, no longer would be able to harm anyone else.
