The approximately 70 children in the foster care legal system in DeSoto County had fabulous Christmas mornings, thanks to the generous donations from local businesses as well as individual donors. The following big-hearted donors deserve a huge thank you from the children, the foster parents, the relatives unexpectedly raising children from within their family, and the Guardian ad Litem Program: The Moose Chapter 1597; the employees of DeSoto Memorial Hospital; Big Tree RV Park; employees of Suntrust Bank; the Peace River Campground; the Open Road Bar and Grill; Cal and Donna Callahan; Tonya Warner; John Fraley; Diane Hall; and other anonymous donors.
The Guardian ad Litem Program advocates for the rights and best interests of abused, neglected or abandoned children who have been thrust into our legal system. A Guardian ad Litem is a trained volunteer who serves as an additional set of eyes and ears for the court, ensuring that all of the children’s needs are being met. DeSoto County needs more Guardian ad Litem volunteers. For more information, call the DeSoto County office at 863-993-4638.
