For members of the Mayor’s Youth Council, sitting in as city commissioners, newspaper reporters, and citizens of Bartow was an interesting and eye-opening experience as they conducted a mock city commission meeting.
Meeting in city hall chamber on Tuesday, Oct. 23, the students conducted a public session just as takes place during a real session. Just as takes place twice a month, the mock city commission considered petitions, communications and questions from the floor. It held a presentation of a certificate of appreciation, and proclaimed Oct. 21-27 as Florida City Government Week. On behalf of the Florida League of Cities, board member Leo E. Longworth accepted the presentation. The presentation of appreciation went to their faculty advisor, Misty Duncan, who was honored for her dedication and support of the students and the Mayor’s Youth Council program.
