Lucille Ball was one of the hundreds of people whose portraits were taken by Harry Warnacke, a leading photographer of the early-to-mid 20th century. His works will be on display at the Polk Museum of Art starting Oct. 27. It is part of an arrangement with The Smithsonian Institution.

In 2010, the Polk Museum of Art became affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution. Come Oct. 27, the Lakeland-based museum will — for the first time — reap the benefit of that association.

Beginning that date and running through Jan. 12 it will host “In Vibrant Color: Vintage Celebrity Portraits from the Harry Warnecke Studio,” which currently is on exhibit at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. And part of this exhibition will be portrayed at Bartow’s History Center tying together arts and the county’s history, director Myrtice Young said.
