Jackets prepare for districts

The Bartow High School Lady Jackets are preparing for their annual State Tournament run. The action started Tuesday evening for the Jackets against George Jenkins. The District is being played at Lake Region High School. The Jackets enter the districts at 22-3. They carry a team batting average of .370 and a team on-base percentage of .477.

Below are the stats for the Jackets

Pitching: Lauren West, 8-2 with a 1.04 ERA, Chelsea King, 7-1 with a 1.24 ERA, Brooke Farrer, 4-0 with a 0.55 ERA and Emiley Delldonne, 3-0 with a 0.35 ERA

Batting averages: Cheyenne Blaha, .474; Meredith McGinnis, .428; Lexi Sims, .451; Chelsea King, .417; Rachael ImigImig, .385; Tonee Fabrizi, .384; Stefani Walls, .373; Deean Davis, .350; Alex Mace, .347; Brianah Greene, .345; Mackenzie Brown, .318; Taylor Sturgill, .275; Delaney Wright, .273; Taylor Pittman, .256; Britteny Meadows- .222

If the Jackets win Tuesday the championship will be Thursday evening at Lake Region at 7 p.m.

Jackets move to 22-3

The Bartow Lady Jackets improved their record to 22-3 with two victories to end the regular season.

On Thursday, April 11, the Lady Jackets hosted the Mulberry Lady Panthers and upped their record to 21-3 with an 8-2 victory.

Bartow got on the board in the first inning as Deean Davis started it off with a double and three batters later freshman Lexi Sims lined a triple down the right field line to plate Davis.

The Jackets scored again in the second as Mackenzie Brown, Alex Mace and Brianah Green started of with back-to-back to back singles and in stepped Davis who knocked in Brown.

The inning was caught short when Bartow had some base running mistake.

The Jackets added another run in the fifth to make it 3-0. The sixth inning locked up the victory as Bartow plated five more runs with hits by Davis and Cheyenne Blaha.

Davis led the way going 3-for-4 followed by Alex Mace who was 2-for-3 and Blaha, Sims, Rachael Imig, Stefanie Walls, Brown and Green all chipped in a hit each.

Chelsea King was the winning pitcher as she allowed four hits while striking out eight batters to up her record to 7-1.

On Friday the Jackets celebrated senior night with an 8-1 victory over their arch rivals the Lake Wales Highlanders.

Deean Davis started off the night reaching on a walk and two batters later Lexi Sims drove her in for her 36th run of the year.

In the third inning the Lady Jackets added four more runs on hits by Sims, Rachael Imig, Stefanie Walls, and Chelsea King while Cheyenne Blaha, Sims, Imig and Walls all scored.

The bugs added three more in the sixth on hits by Davis, Blaha, Brittney Meadows and Imig.

In the four years the three seniors, Imig, West and Blaha have accumulated an overall record 101-14.

Earlier in the day Lauren West was chosen as the FACA MVP and West and Cheyenne Blaha were the coaches’ selection for the FACA All star game played later in the year. Rachael Imig was chosen as an alternate. Lake Regions John Bridges was chosen as the 7A district coach of the year

Bartow opened district play Tuesday night, at Lake Region High School against George Jenkins. Should they win, the finals are Thursday, April 18 at Lake Region at 7 p.m.
