On Tuesday, March 12, the Lady Jackets traveled to Lake Region to face district foe the Lake Region Thunder, and their bats didn’t seem to make the trip.
The Jackets could only manage four hits out of 24 at bats. The Thunder didn’t do much better as they managed five hits but scored two runs and beat the Yellow Jackets.
The game was scoreless in the bottom of the fourth inning when Clair Chambers got things started with a line drive to right center. Niki Drowdy moved Chambers over and then she moved to third on a passed ball and scored on an error. The Jackets threatened in the top of the fifth with runners on second and third but could not push a run across.
Then the Thunder added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Haley Wisemen singled then was driven in by Elisa Bulandi who hit a triple.
Lauren West took the loss for Bartow who now stands at 10-1 for the season. Cheyenne Blaha, Stefani Walls, Rachel Inig and Chelsea King all got hits for the Jackets.
The team’s record this year is 10-1.
The Jackets are busy next week with hosting Ridge Community on Monday, March 18, traveling to George Jenkins on Tuesday, March 19, and going to Lake Gibson on April 5.
The JV fared better as they got the best of the Thunder JV with a 5-0 victory.
Vangie Futch pitched the entire game giving up six hits while striking out 10.
The Jackets managed seven hits with Savannah Puls and Lexy Cables recording two hits each and Bayli Robinson and Kaycee Twomey and Alyssa Bourtney adding one each.
The JV will be in action on Monday at Bartow with game times bring 5:30 p.m.
