Lady Jackets winners of first eight games of season

The Lady Jackets softball team moved their overall record to 8-0 and district record to 2-0 with three victories this week.

Coach Glenn Rutenbar said, “The whole team is contributing and they are constantly striving to get better.”

Bartow is presently ranked number 1 in Florida Class 7A and number 4 nationally. As any coach will tell you its nice to get recognized for a team’s accomplishment but it really only matters at the end of the season

On Tuesday, Feb. 26 the Lady Jackets opened district play as they traveled to Haines City to face the Hornets. The Jackets three seniors all played an important role in the 14-0 victory. Lauren West pitched four innings throwing a no hitter and striking out five Hornets. Rachael Imig hit a three-run home run in the first inning and Cheyenne Blaha hit a grand slam in the third inning.

Bartow put up six runs in the first, four in the third and four runs in the fourth.

Lexy Sims had three hits and two RBIs and Alex Mace chipped in two hits also. Adding a hit each were-Deean Davis, Blaha, Imig, Meredith McGinnis and Brianna Green.

The Jackets junior set the tone for the night as they defeated the JV Hornets 15-1.

Taylor Williams pitched a two-hitter while striking out seven natters. Bartow blasted out 17 hits by 12 different batters.

On Wednesday the Jackets again headed north to face the Ridge High School Bolts with much the same results as the Jackets moved to 7-0 behind a 15-1 victory.

The Jackets put up eight runs in the second inning, one in the third and six in the fourth. Chipping in with two hits each were Deean Davis, Tonee Fabrizi, Rachael Imig, Brittany Meadows, Brianna Green, while Cheyenne Blaha, Taylor Pittman, Chelsea King, Alex Mace, Mackenzie Brown, Delaney Wright and Meredith McGinnis all added one hit each.

Brooke Farrer pitched three innings giving up two hits while striking out six batters. Emily Delldonne threw the last two innings facing six batters and striking out five.

The JV also continued their winning ways with a 13-1 victory. Bartow pounded out 10 hits with Vickie Jones, Mallory Goin chipping in two hits each and Brook Smith, Jasmine Loketic, Bayli Robinson, Brianna Cunningham, Kat Lopez, and Eric Mincey added one each. Savannah Puls pitched four innings striking out eight batters and allowing one hit. Vangie Futch closed out the fifth inning on the mound.

On Thursday the Jackets hosted a tough Auburndale team managing eight hits while scoring four runs for the victory.

Bartow got on the board in the bottom of the first when Cheyenne Blaha reached on a single and then Tonee Fabrizi blasted a home run to give the Jackets a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth Lexy Sims got things started with a double then Rachael Imig knocked Sims in and Stefani Walls sacrificed Imig in. Chelsea King went the distance for the win allowing six hits with six strikeouts and two runs

Bartow’s JV lost their first game of the season 3-2. Bartow managed eight hits to Auburndale’s four hits but the Jackets committed four errors.

Next week the Jackets host two home games one against George Jenkins Tuesday and Lakeland Friday. Games starts 7:30 p.m.
