Jumping on the Panthers early Tuesday, Feb. 19, the Bartow High Yellow Jackets sailed to an 11-0 victory over Mulberry upping their record to 5-0.
In the top of the first inning the Yellow Jackets scored for four runs. Leading the way was the cleanup hitter freshman Lexy Sims with three hits and two RBIs. Adding two hits each were Deean Davis, Rachael Imig, Stefanie Walls while Cheyenne Blaha, Tonee Fabrizi and Taylor Sturgill all added one hit each.
Brooke Farrer pitched four innings allowing only four hits. Emily Delldonne pitched the fifth inning facing four batter and allowing only one hit.
Bartow has a few days off and then returns next week with three games.
On Tuesday Feb. 26 they travel to Haines City to face district foe The Haines City Hornets.
JV plays at 5:30 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m.
On Thursday, Feb. 28, the Jackets host the Auburndale Bloodhounds, same game times for JV and varsity and then on Friday, March 1 they hit the road again to face the Ridge Bolts another district contest. Same games times.
For the year the Jackets are hitting .403 as a team while holding their opponents to a .144 average.
On base percentage the Jackets are at .509 while their opponents are at .263.
On Monday Feb. 18 the JV travels to McKell. The Jackets had easily defeated McKell earlier in the year but learned that each game is different.
The Jackets managed five runs on nine hits while holding McKell to three runs on eight hits.
Hope Brannon went the distance for Bartow striking out nine McKell batters. Leading the way for the home town team were Baii Robinson and Jasmine Lovietek with two hits each while Lovietek added a homerun.
Contributing RBIs were Lexy Cables, Robinson, Meredith McGinnis, Lovietek and Sam Spears.
