Lady Jackets pound Highlanders

Behind a 17-hit performance the Bartow Lady Jackets pounded the Lake Wales Highlanders 17-6 in five innings. The Jackets put up a 10 spot in the first inning with two hits by Deean Davis, Cheyenne Blaha and Lexy Sims and one hit each by Tonee Fabrizi, Stefani Walls.

In the second inning the Jackets added seven more runs with hits by Fabrizi, Sims, Walls, Taylor Sturgil and a home run by Rachael Imig.

Lauren West pitched two inning allowing six runs on five hits. Brooke Farrer pitch three innings allowing only one hit.

With the two victories in the preseason classic, the Jackets have now scored 43 runs in four games while allowing only six and posting a 4-0 record.

The junior varsity started off the night defeating Lake Wales 15-1.

Kaycee Twomey and Meredith McGinnis had three hits each with McGinnis blasted a home run.

Bayli Robinson and Vangie Futch each added two hits each.

Savannah Puls pitched three innings giving up one run on five hits while striking out three. Taylor Williams came on in relief and facing six batters and getting them all out.

The JV record is 3-0.

The varsity’s schedule includes a game against Sumter County on Friday, Feb. 15, and a game Saturday at 10 a.m. against Jacksonville Bishop Snyder who has a pitcher who pre-signed with the University of Arkansas.

The Jackets will also honor the seven state championship teams and the members.

Next week the varsity plays Tuesday evening at Mulberry, game time is 7 p.m.
