A Bartow man was charged with battery, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia after an incident Jan. 13 where he choked a woman during a disagreement, which led to his being searched by police.

Harvin McKinley, 42, was having a disagreement with the victim, according to witnesses, when the two came outside and the victim, who had possession of the suspect’s car keys, was choked in an effort to regain the keys. The victim fell short of breath and dropped the keys, after which she was released by the suspect, the report said. Police arrived and found 0.5 grams of cocaine, police report. McKinley was transported to processing, then to the Polk County Jail by Bartow Police.
