I have participated in the Polk Senior Games for 15 years with some degree of success. Each time my picture/story appears in the newspaper, I receive compliments and encouragement from my family, friends and strangers. After enjoying “the moment,” I redirect the kind words to Father God who is “the giver of every good and perfect gift.” He allows me to keep all the memories.
The only reason I receive special recognition is because of the hardworking women and men on the newspaper staff who show up at the competitions with a camera and pen and make time to ask me flattering questions. Then they lovingly write my story. I wonder if these unselfish and dedicated photographers and writers know how deeply their stories impact my life? First of all, my husband, children and grandchildren enjoy reading your articles. Athletes see your words and are generous with their praise and my church family gives me lots of hugs. Friends and strangers cut out your stories and give them to me. Thank you very much. My story ends with a question. How can I honor you and give back to you some of the recognition and pleasure that you bestow upon others?
