Happy New Year everyone. I hope you had a great Christmas and are enjoying a great start to 2013.
While giving some thought to this week’s article and trying to decide what tips were most important, I decided to give you an overview of the past year at the Bartow Police Department.
In 2012, we were able to accomplish so much. With the help of the City’s IT department, we integrated an updated computer software package that is truly a system that links our dispatch center and police officers on the road. Our facility was updated to accommodate individuals with disabilities. The BPD was able to update our in-door firing range. The Community Services Team was initiated, which has been a huge success-very well received by the community. Finally, the Volunteer “Citizens on Patrol” program was implemented and it has been a huge benefit to the citizens (thanks to our hard working volunteers).
Currently, our Communications Center is going through a complete re-model to be more efficient. Those of you that have participated in the Citizen’s Police Academy know just how badly that was needed. To top it all off, I anticipate our lowest crime rate, since I joined the Bartow Police Department, for the year 2012. This all tells me that our educational program with the community is successful.
Things are looking up for us in Bartow. This year, we will be working on becoming re- accredited and preparing for the future with the retirement of some long standing members. Happy New Year everyone, and please be safe in whatever your personal endeavors may be.
