If you are reading this week’s article, we have made it through Christmas; and I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday. Hopefully you did something for someone that was less fortunate than you. Now, we will prepare to celebrate the new year. Bigger and better things are yet to come, as the future continues to look bright for us in Bartow.
Ringing in the new year is important to all of us, and to accompany the “Ringing In” there will be celebrations all across the city. Your police department typically deals with some circumstances, and sometimes injuries, that are just not necessary.
I would like you to consider a couple of things this year as you celebrate:
First, DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE. It is not worth it. The life you save may be your own. Don’t put innocent people in jeopardy for your good time. Simply have a designated driver or a pre-planned pickup. If you must go out and drink, enjoy yourself but be safe and thoughtful of others.
Second, Don’t discharge firearms into the air. “What goes up must come down.” I am sure everyone understands that when you shoot a firearm, a very fast moving projectile comes out of the barrel. When a person shoots into the air, it is going to come down through a roof, a car or into a person. Just don’t do it. Not only is this unsafe but it is illegal in Bartow. Don’t start your new year off by being arrested. Enjoy the celebrations, have a good time with family and friends, and to quote my wife: “Make good choices.”
Happy New Year everyone!
