A-C-T Environmental & Infrastructure Inc. of Bartow got the inaugural Florida Small Business Resiliency Award last week at the 2013 Public-Private Sector Disaster Preparedness Summit in Orlando.

Nominated by Polk County Fire Rescue’s Emergency Management Bureau, A-C-T was chosen for the award that was established to honor small businesses that demonstrate disaster preparedness and recovery efforts worthy of emulation.

“A-C-T understands the importance of having systems, back-up systems, policies, written procedures, training and partnerships in place to ensure not only their own preparedness and resiliency, but that of the customers they serve and the community at large,” said Polk’s Emergency Management Director Pete McNally. “We believe it’s for these reasons that A-C-T was selected for the 2012 award from among candidate companies throughout Florida.”

A-C-T partners with local governments, regional planning councils and first responders to help community preparedness and business resilience during emergencies. It has partnered with Polk County Fire Rescue, Central Florida Regional Planning Council, Aeromed Rescue, LEPC District 7 and a large chemical manufacturer in Polk County to coordinate and facilitate several emergency drill scenarios.

“Through these trainings and drills, A-C-T is assisting everyone in Polk County to be safer and better protected during an emergency,” Rob Kincart, A-C-T president, said when accepting the award.

A-C-T has built its headquarters to withstand a Category 5 hurricane, installed back-up land line phone systems at all of its six locations throughout Florida, installed a full-office generator system and integrated safety and emergency preparedness training into standard operation guides. Part of A-C-T’s plan includes staging necessary heavy equipment and other fleet vehicles around the state.
