Myrtice Young, director of the Polk County History Center, talks to a group who took a tour Friday of the 1908 courtroom, about to undergo additional renovations to add a jury box replicating that of the historic courthouse's early days. Jury chairs and a judge's bench were donated recently, having been rescued from destruction during earlier renovations to the courthouse. The group Young is addressing had earlier attended a seminar on services available through the library system and history center.
Daughters of the American Revolution and friends heard a summary Friday of services provided by the Polk Library Cooperative, the genealogy library and the history center as a whole.
The Bartow chapter of the DAR held a public seminar for people to learn what is available in the building that was once Polk County’s main courthouse. Featured speakers were Gladys Roberts, coordinator for the Polk County Library Cooperative; Gail Seger, senior library assistant; and Myrtice Young, historic preservation manager.
