There are still a couple of openings in the current Citizens Police Academy, which starts Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Bartow.

According to Lyn Bryan, the program’s coordinator, applications must be received by Monday or at the latest, Tuesday morning, since a background check is required for all applicants. Topics included in the 12-week academy include criminal investigations, crime scene processing, patrol units and driving under the influence activity, defensive tactics, firearms instruction, fire department demonstrations and K-9 unit demonstrations.
