Children were not the only ones to get a gift courtesy Santa (and the Bartow Fire Department). Parents at each household also received gift cards.

Some of the bags were so heavy and the children so young and small that they could barely lift the bags. Each child received a bag with eight presents apiece.

Bartow Firefighter John Calandros presents a gift card to the mother of two who received a visit from Santa this past Saturday, Dec. 22.
For eight Bartow families, Santa Claus arrived early — but he was still a little late.
This past Saturday, Dec. 22, members of the Bartow Fire Department were supposed to load up the vintage Fire Engine No. 3 hook and ladder (the city’s first fire truck, built in 1927). The plan was to start loading the truck with the bags of presents at 8 a.m., then start delivery at 8:30 a.m.
